“I don’t want politics in my comics,” is a stance I will never understand.

Superhero comics have ALWAYS been political.

Captain America was the creation of two Jewish men, and they had him beat the shit out of Hitler.

The rash of killings of Civil Rights leaders in the 60’s and 70’s (particularly MLK) led to Luke Cage, a black man with unbreakable skin, being created.

The X-Men have ALWAYS reflected the current political times, whether it was the origins in the beginning of the Civil Rights Era, to the reflection of LGBTQA rights during the AIDS crisis with the Legacy Virus.

Superheros have always been political. There were no “good old days before teh EssJays ruined it with politics,” because politics have always gone with comics.

Batman refuses to use guns because that’s how his parents died?

Superman is a literal alien refugee accepted by a small town Kansas family.

I know I just reblogged this, but let me add.
Joe Simon and jack Kirby had captain America punching out Hitler on a cover… Before world war 2 started. They saw what Hitler was doing, and decided that the embodiment of the American spirit at the time would be opposed.
This caused disquiet in America among nazi supporters (yes, there were American nazi supporters, and there were many) to the point where the men received so many death threats that the mayor of new York himself hired private security for the two men.

Comics have always been political. Comics have always found a way to say something, even if people like nazi supporters, Wertham, and fox news tries to keep them down.
Stan lee insisted on publishing spider-man stories dealing with drug use, even if they couldn’t be printed with the comics code certificate (meaning not sold at news stands).
Wonder woman has always been a feminist icon.
Superman has always been a refugee.
Captain America has always been unapologetically political.
Nothing has changed.

there is literally a Superman radio serial that systematically depowered the Ku Klux Klan by exposing their rituals when a man who infiltrated him was stonewalled by the local police
